The Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair is Worth Every Penny

The Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair is a godsend to parents and children everywhere. If I could go back in time and buy it the first time around, when my son was born, I would. Sadly, I made the mistake of buying other, lesser high chairs — two of them in fact, which ended up being such a waste of money.

Don’t make the same mistake I did. The Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair is worth it, 100%. Thousands of parents across the world (and their kiddos) would agree!

So what makes this Norwegian beauty, which was first introduced nearly 40 years ago, in 1972, so g-darn beautiful?

The Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair Grows With Your Child

First of all, just like us moms and dads, the Tripp Trapp High Chair is an incredible multi-tasker.

You don’t need to keep cycling through different high chairs, booster seats, and other child-specific chairs as your child grows. Thanks to its innovative design, the Tripp Trapp High Chair grows with your child, making it ideal for babies, toddlers, and big kids. I even sit in ours, it’s that comfortable, and it’s a great extra chair to drag into the living room when you need extra seating for gatherings.

It's Ergonomic

I love how ergonomic, safe, and body-forward this chair is. The footrest acts as a floor, letting your child balance and shift their weight around.

There are three vital growth points to keep in mind when purchasing a high chair: the back, the upper leg, and the lower leg. With the Tripp Trap high chair, each growth point is fully supported, no matter what stage of development your child is in.

How to Adjust the Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair

All that’s required to adjust the chair is a few simple moves. By loosening a few screws and moving the wooden seat and footrest up or down and then sliding them back in, you can adjusting the chair to your desired height and depth.

Adjustments you gotta make for optimal comfort and circulation:

  • Seat: Adjust the depth of seat so that there are two to three inches between the front edge of the seat and the back of your kiddos knee. Check out the image below.
  • Footrest: Lower or raise the footrest to make sure that your child's knees are bent at a 90 degree angle. Again, please see the image below.

Most of the instructional videos I found on YouTube were confusing, unorganized, or poor quality. The video below, however, is a true gem and guides you through how to both assemble AND adjust the chair. If you're interested specifically in how to adjust the Tripp Trapp chair, skip to minute 4:46.

The Tripp Trapp Chair Makes Dinnertime Easier (and Better!)

Unlike a traditional hair chair, which has its own tray, the Stokke Tripp Trapp Chair can be scooted right up to your dining table. It has no tray (though one can be purchased separately, should you wish); instead, your child is brought directly to your table and at the optimal height, so that he or she can comfortably rest their little elbows on your table at a 90 degree angle (another ergonomic plus).

This is huge on so many levels. Your child can be part of family meal time from day one. Research has shown that the children of families who eat together are less likely to be overweight and more likely to consume healthy foods. The benefits extend even deeper, and include improved mental well-being, more positive family interactions, and even greater academic achievement.

The Tripp Trapp Chair Can Be Used for All Sorts of Activities

Since the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair can be pulled right up to the table, your little one can use the Tripp Trapp chair for other activities beyond eating and mealtimes.

This chair has absolutely revolutionized arts and crafts time for us, for example. My son can paint, draw, glue, and practice cutting construction paper with scissors, etc., with ease.

We’ve even used this high chair for baking and decorating cookies together! (Though it's never meant to be used as a stool — that's straight up unsafe.

The Tripp Trapp Chair is Easy to Clean

How much food (and other unknown substances) gets caught in the nooks and crannies of your current high chair? How hard is it to get the damn tray off to clean it? I bet the answers are: (a) a ton, and (b) hard. It was for these reasons that my sister-in-law practically threw her former high chair out the window (RIP) and buy, you guessed it, a Stokke.

I don't know of any other chair that is so easy to clean. In fact, because of its design, it doesn't require much if any cleaning. Gasp!

Also, did I mention that this chair is a beauty? It's sleek and Scandinavian (beech wood from Norway) and looks great in any home. Say goodbye to your clunky, bulky, brightly colored high chairs that have a massive footprint and take up all of the space in your kitchen or dining room.

How Much Does the Tripp Trapp Chair Cost?

It's not cheap. It'll set you back $199.

But it's a wise investment, especially since it is so multifunctional and can even be used (very comfortably) by adults.

Buy the Tripp Trapp chair on Stokke's website for free shipping and extended warranty.

You can also find used Tripp Trapp chairs if that's your jam. I'd suggest first looking on Facebook Marketplace for used chairs. I have had amazing luck on Facebook Marketplace, both as a buyer and a seller.

You can also scour eBay for used Stokke Tripp Trapp chairs. Just make sure the seller is reputable, and read their reviews and return policy closely for any red flags.

Newborn Set

For newborn use, you'll want to purchase the Stokke newborn set. New, the newborn set costs $149.

Baby Set (High Chair Seat)

And for ages 6 months to 2 years, you'll want to have the Stokke "baby set" for high chair use. New, the high chair seat costs $79.

You can also purchase the "baby set" together with the chair and save $10.

Bottom line: the Tripp Trapp high chair is 100% worth it. You won't be sorry you bought it. In fact, you'll probably be sorry you didn't get it sooner (like me!)!
